I love Christmas, and I love to decorate and make my home festive.  I’ve changed the theme for my Christmas tree countless times and that means I have LOTS of Christmas decorations.  Here are some ideas that have worked great for me and might make your holiday decorating and organizing your holiday decorations a little easier. 

First, if you have more than 5 or 6 bins or boxes of stuff set aside a couple of hours to tackle this project.  (If you hire me, it will take a lot less of your valuable time!).  Get out all the boxes of Christmas decorations and allocate some space to lay everything out where you can see it.  Once you have it out where you can see it, its time to make some decisions:

  • set aside the items you plan to use this year
  • group like items together: candles, lights, bulbs, home decor, etc. 
  • evaluate your collection and decide if you are ready to part with any of it, now that you can see everything.  

If you are ready to let go of some of it, you may be able to collect some cash for it by taking it to a home consignment store.  Items that are smaller like lights, bulbs, candles can be donated to a thrift store for resale or saved for a future yard sale.  Items that can be taken to consignment are larger, more valuable home decor items, items need to be new or like new.  

Once you have sorted out what you are planning to use this year and what you are letting go of, start putting the rest away in clear bins.  Be sure to label each bin so you can easily identify the contents when its time to put it all away after the holidays.
